An elegant city house: history meets luxury

The Netherlands

Our office transformed a former law firm into a warm and luxurious home, in which clear sightlines and natural materials provide an atmospheric setting. The rich history of the building – dating from 1908 – is clearly tangible and visible. We made the interior design for the two floors of the house.

Due to the monumental moldings on the ceiling of the rooms on the first floor (located on the first floor of the building), the layout had to be largely preserved. However, a small front room is indirectly connected to the living area in a subtle way and the landing is half closed to create a more spacious toilet. In the existing front and middle room we situated the living kitchen and a sitting room. Both spaces are separated by a new en-suite door, which creates intimacy, but also forms an open character and lines of sight come into their own.
