For the renowned maintenance company elk® in Nijmegen, we designed an interior that is not only visually appealing but also fully aligned with the company’s circular principles. In this new headquarters, every design choice was guided by sustainability, using the 9 R’s—such as Reuse, Repair, and Reduce—as the framework.

We worked closely with elk® to reuse materials from previous projects. The impressive wooden wall on the ground floor, made from reclaimed wood, creates a warm and inviting atmosphere. Upon entering, visitors are greeted by a green wall, which serves as a striking focal point while contributing to a healthy indoor climate.

The first floor features open, transparent offices designed with ergonomic principles and abundant natural light.

Each workstation benefits from optimal daylight through the large windows and newly installed skylights. The centrally located mezzanine is not only a practical passageway but also serves as a meeting point with an open character, diverse seating arrangements, and a pantry with a coffee corner. This area brings together all disciplines within the organization, from field workers to executives. Additionally, this floor houses several meeting rooms. These spaces are equipped with cradle-to-cradle carpeting that absorbs fine dust.

For every room, we focused on the existing structure and strong characteristics, as we wanted to avoid unnecessary interventions from a sustainability perspective. In the office and meeting spaces, we retained the original ceilings, which align well with the industrial look the building was intended to achieve.
